Inspiration During Covid-19

Since my last post which really got me inspired, I have now started another origami batik painting. This time, I have decided to make a family of birds. The family of birds will come in 5 separate pieces with various combinations. This first one that I’m currently painting is the parental set, which I call The Couple Shot. It’s not the title, but that’s what I refer to it by. I should be able to finish this painting in another 2 days or so. And I can’t wait to start on my next one. I might even prepare the sketch on the canvas so that I can dive right into it immediately right after I finish this current one.

Not to mention, I have ordered some sarongs with batik motives online, and 2 out of the 3 shipments arrived today. My plan is to make different animals out of them – with different colours and patterns.

With the whole pandemic issue, and the whole of Malaysia being on lockdown, I definitely have a lot more time to spend in the studio researching and creating new bodies of work. This idea might have not even crossed my mind if it weren’t for the lockdown. In a way, I am glad that we have the MCO, but on the other hand sales will be even slower than ever. It was slow (for me) even before the lockdown – so I can’t even imagine what it will be like for this year.

Having this side project (which I love) is keeping me motivated, and excited even.
I have no clue how many I will end up doing. But I won’t stop anytime soon coz I have 5 pieces of new batiks and another coming next week! That means, I could end up with 12 pieces minimum including this bird “family set”. Which animal do you reckon I should paint after this bird series?

Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. 🙂

Until the next update – stay safe and take care.
